My TikTok 30-Day Challenge Journey: Lessons Learned from Trying to Join the Amazon Influencer Program
Hi everyone! I’m Chayada from Gen X Influencer. Today, I’m excited to share what I learned from my TikTok 30-Day Challenge Journey while trying to grow my account and apply for the Amazon Influencer Program.
Why I Wanted to Join the Amazon Influencer Program
Initially, I was drawn to the Amazon Influencer Program because I saw it as a great opportunity. As a product reviewer, collaborating directly with Amazon seemed like a perfect fit. Although I had previously reviewed products from various merchants, being part of the Amazon Influencer Program could unlock even more possibilities.
However, I hesitated due to the daunting requirements. Despite having a personal Facebook page and an Instagram business account, I didn’t have a YouTube channel. Social media wasn’t my strength—I’m more of a homebody who enjoys internet surfing and games. Consequently, when I discovered TikTok, it appeared to be the ideal platform to pursue my goal.
My TikTok Strategy and Challenges
To start, I followed advice from YouTubers who recommended creating short motivational or psychological fact videos under 12 seconds. I began posting regularly. Nonetheless, growth was slow, and I struggled to understand TikTok’s algorithm.
In the third week, I joined Facebook groups to learn from other Amazon influencers. Although I attempted to replicate their strategies, my engagement rate remained around 17-18%, while I needed 25%.
One night, I noticed a trend about a follow train on TikTok’s For You page. Without thorough research, I decided to join in. Unfortunately, the next morning, I saw a sharp 7% drop in my engagement rate overnight. Despite my efforts to recover, the rate continued to decline and is now around 2%.
Reflecting on Setbacks and Finding New Opportunities
At this point, I considered deleting my TikTok account or abandoning the Amazon Influencer Program. Nevertheless, I discovered a supportive TikTok community, including Gen Xers and others involved in engagement trains. Their encouragement motivated me to persevere.
While I didn’t achieve my goal with the Amazon Influencer Program, I found alternative ways to earn money online. These include the Amazon Affiliate Program, TikTok Live, TikTok subscriptions, and TikTok effects. Instead of focusing solely on the Amazon program, I realized the importance of leveraging what I already have, such as affiliate marketing through my blog and other social media platforms.
Key Takeaways
This experience taught me that setbacks often lead to new opportunities. It’s crucial to remain flexible and explore different paths. Even if one goal doesn’t work out, there are always other ways to succeed.
Although my 30-day journey to becoming an Amazon Influencer didn’t go as planned, it opened up new opportunities and provided valuable lessons.
